This is not just a
"woman's magazine."
It
addresses issues that affect everyone, including matters of
gender equality. And speaking of equality as of June 17, 2008, with the election of Rep. Donna Edwards (D-IL) in a special election to fill the seat of former Rep. Albert Wynn, women currently hold
only 75 of the 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives
(17 percent), and 16 of 100 seats in the U.S. Senate. We need
to ask ourselves “Why?”
Each issue of this publication
will profile two Forward Thinking Women, one present and one
past. Other articles will feature the environment, the economy,
social issues, health and fitness, philosophy and a humorous column about life with animals.
You will disagree with some of the articles. That’s
good. People are different and have different opinions. If
you would like to refute something printed in the magazine
or on this Web site, feel free to send a letter to the editor
or offer to write an article for publication.
I’m hoping we can use this Web site to share ideas
about society and how to make it better, kinder and more nurturing.
Somewhere along the way, it seems that obtaining money became
the ultimate goal. We need to get back to real values: family,
helping others, enjoying nature, creativity, art, literature
and humor. We need to be more tolerant of those who are different
from us. And above all, we need to make sure that this planet
not only survives but flourishes for future generations.
